Learning how to learn is one of the most important tools we can give our students.

Lincoln School encourages students to become lifelong learners who are independent readers, writers, and thinkers.  Literacy skills are essential for success in today's complex and technological world.  The crucial factor that promotes or hinders success in today's society is the ability to access, understand, and use different types of information.

One of the ways Lincoln School provides students with access to literature is through the library, a key component of the Guided Learning Center.  All Lincoln students have the opportunity to check out various types of literature on a daily basis.

Library Policy:  Books are checked out for a two-week period, which can be extended once.  Students will not be able to check out books if they have unreturned/overdue books.

If a student does not return a borrowed book on time, a notice will be given to the student as a reminder.  If the borrowed book is still not returned after reminders have been given, the student will be billed for the missing book.  Once the book is paid for, the student will be able to borrow books again. Students will also be billed for damaged books.

California Young Reader Medal Program: The California Young Reader Medal program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state.  Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal.
